Special Interests, Outside Influence, and Corruption at the EPA
Soon after Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was nominated to be the Administrator of the EPA, Beehive Research ran a year long investigation looking at his personal finances and other activities. Our work was used as the source for multiple print and television stories about Mr. Pruitt’s personal residence in DC, his business dealings in Oklahoma, and his relationships with the industries he was responsible for regulating. We worked with Congressional investigators in both the House and Senate to drive ongoing inquiries and supported a broad spectrum of environmental groups as they worked to highlight Pruitt’s flaws both inside and outside of the Beltway. After months of negative media coverage, Administrator Pruitt was forced to resign on July 5, 2018.

Unfair Business Practices at a Federal Agency
Beehive Research was hired by a company to determine whether a public official was unfairly prejudicing an agency decision-making process against them in favor of a competitor. Our two-year investigation relied on public records requests to build a case and provide the client and outside stakeholders with evidence that the agency was acting inappropriately and was unfairly prejudiced against our client. The results of the investigation sparked a Congressional inquiry and effectively ended the inappropriate behavior that was harming our client.

Investigating Anti-Government Extremists
Beehive Research was hired by a conservation organization to research key anti-government groups involved in the illegal occupation of a federal wildlife refuge. Our research examined publicly available information related to the structure and financing of these groups and identified potential financial irregularities worthy of investigation by the Internal Revenue Service. Our research was cited in a Congressional forum held by Democrats on the House Natural Resources and Homeland Security Committees that focused on the armed occupation at Malheur and threats of violence on public lands.

Project Veritas Infiltration
Beehive Research was hired by a civic engagement organization that was infiltrated by Project Veritas operatives posing as reporters. We worked with the group’s leadership, legal counsel, and affected staff members to identify the areas of the organization’s work exposed by the infiltration and the likely lines of attack based on the information that was leaked. We then worked with the communications team to develop a strategy that both defended the organization’s ongoing voter registration work and proactively put Project Veritas on the defensive.
